Winter 2025 Court of Honor
On January 16th, Troop 28 held a Spring 2025 Court of Honor at Christ Church in Winnetka. It was a combined ceremony with Troop 18 Winnetka, celebrating their two new Eagle Scouts: Chris Kotz and Chris Xu.
Our emcee Steven gave a brief Troop update since our last Court of Honor in June:
Troop 28 carried the flags in the Glencoe 4th of July Parade. We then had a small, but mighty, attendance at Camp Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan over the summer. We had two female adult leaders and our group absorbed two younger members from Troop 2 Wilmette.
We started our first scout campout of the school year with an adventurous bike ride and overnight stay at Illinois State Beach. We traveled across the Wisconsin border and stopped by a local ice cream shop on our journey back to the beach.
We then had another great campout at Cook county’s Camp Reinberg in Palatine. That was an exciting trip with a 5 mile hike around the forest preserves, a close encounter with a skunk who wanted to join our campfire, and freezing temperatures in which many of us here tonight earned our Polar Bear badge.
Our most recent campout brought us back to the Little House of Glencoe. During the day we all picked up our trash grabbers and cleaned up our local Skokie Lagoons. There were a surprisingly large amount of empty alcohol bottles, leading us to believe that quite a few parties were secretly held in the forest preserve.
Many Scouts helped their Troop buddies with their Eagle projects by fortifying and beautifying our treasured Little House of Glencoe. The annual wreath sale was a success and both adults and Scouts braved the cold to categorize and disperse these treasured holiday favorites. Lastly, a few Scouts picked up some well earned merit badges over the holiday break from the online merit badge college.
It may not have been as exciting as last year’s eclipse and horde of cicadas, but we certainly made a lot of good memories!
